Dirtstar is a free online magazine dedicated to promoting and supporting mini and junior dirt biking in New Zealand. Dirtstar was formally created in December 2006 after a group of four decided that there was a gap in the current mini and junior dirt biking / motocross scene here in NZ.
Drew and Kate Broadley, Freelance Photography and Top Shelf Media joined forces with my wife, Lynne Nisbet and I (Damo) to design, host and publish an online magazine specifically for the youth dirt biking scene.
Our aim is to provide a brand neutral point, (Dirtstar) from which to promote youth dirt biking, support clubs and events, celebrate riders of all abilities and provide relevant industry information to Dirtstar readership regarding products, events, clubs, riders and other interest areas such as BMX and Mountain biking, specific to the youth market.
Our logo was created, with emphasis on our multi tipped star reflecting the five major dirt bike brands in NZ and our desire to remain brand neutral in this area.
Dirtstar magazine is currently a quarterly online publication released on the 20th of March, June, September and December each year. In addition Dirtstar maintains a home page that acts as a front shop to our magazine and other readership interest areas.
Since launching the first Dirtstar issue in March 2007, Dirtstar has published another three issues and is currently working on issue number five. The internet was chosen as the Dirtstar message medium due to it's relative low cost, low risk and acceptance by our target youth audience. The internet also enables Dirtstar to move quickly into new and emerging areas of interest for the benefit of our readership.
Dirtstar has, with the assistance of our supporters, The Rock Radio Station, AFC Motorcycles, Freelance Photography and Game Console been able to assist in the promotion and sponsorship of a number of events. As we continue to develop our Brand we will be engaging with other areas to explore ways in which we can work together, (collaborate) to promote dirt biking in New Zealand.
Dirtstar is produced by me (Damo) and Lynne Nisbet. We have four children under the age of 12 years and are employed full time in other work areas. We have a passion for the outdoors, sports and dirt biking, which we share with our children.
Damo has previously served 21 years with the New Zealand Defence Force in both the Army, Air Force and as a civilian for Defence Headquarters. Damo is currently responsible for the Dirtstar editorial content, support and production.
Lynne has previous experience in the banking sector and with sales, and when not running the family home and looking after our four children, Lynne is the rock behind Dirtstar. Lynne takes care of all the administration, finances and providing editorial support needed to make sure we keep on track. Lynne also takes care of the Dirtstar financial responsibilities.
If you are keen to help grow dirt biking in New Zealand and support the development of our youth in this area then we would love to hear from you. Send an email to info@dirtstar.co.nz with your name, contact details and a brief outline of the support / assistance you would like to discuss. I will be in touch just as soon as I read the email.
Until then - happy riding!
