Huge upset in the big 65 cc 9-11 Championship class with #44 James Anderson not being permitted to ride by race officials due an injury to his left foot area received in race two of day one. James was checked by on track medical staff upon arrival on day two and officials were advised that he shouldn’t ride. We caught up with James shortly after the shock news James, who was heavily bandaged and hobbling to rest his foot was gutted at the decision.
Situations like this does turn our minds to the dilemma we face as parents of mini and junior motocross riders. When an injury is sustained at what point should we responsibly pull the pin? Should the rider decide, the parent, medical staff, race officials or a combination of some or all of the above? I’m sure we could debate this for hours but our advice would be, expect the unexpected and if in doubt get a registered doctor to sign a medical declaration that the rider is fit to race. Easy to say and sometimes not practical to achieve in a short space of time. Good luck for the next event James.
Other riders to face race ending injuries were #85 Lucas Alexander from
Wellington
who suffered a shoulder injury and #97 Mackenzie Wigg from the
Hawkes
Bay
with an arm injury. Get well soon boys; we look forward to seeing you on track.
Congratulations to Rotorua MCC for putting on such an amazing event, all the riders for your efforts and our new mini champs for 2007.
